Dr. Lionel T. Rush describes the impact Roger Holloway has had on his life. He is the pastor of Greater Anointing Fellowship Church of God in Christ (COGIC) and the president of the prestigious Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Indianapolis. As he describes the youth outreach ministry known as the Hip Hop Haven in Indianapolis, you’ll understand why Charisma Magazine featured it in their national publication with the article “Hip-Hop Haven’ touches at-Risk youth in Indianapolis“.
Ah, the Indiana State Fair!
Roger Holloway and the Indiana State Fair have been together for six decades! Roger is reminiscing about how the Indiana State Fair has been part of his life since about 1960. 1964 was a pivotal year as he had his first Fair job and saw the Beatles perform live, just six months after their Ed Sullivan Show reveal. And East 38th Street in Indianapolis is where it all happens.

Gary Regich Getting Prayed For in Church
Pastor Gary Regich recalls sovereignly and supernaturally running into Roger Holloway in 1980 at the Indiana State Fair concert featuring Manhattan Transfer. The very next morning, he came to a church where Roger was ministering, and the rest is His-Story.
Ain’t No Friend Like An Old Friend
Fred Moore was a high school friend who began his radio career on WTLC-FM the same day I did. We were seniors in high school and the new R&B station had only been on the air a few months. 1968. We just lost him this year; Thomas Griffin and I were asked to remember him in this video.
My Story, as I remember it
I am Roger Holloway. Born in 1950 – Indianapolis, Indiana. Still alive and clicking. And this is my story, as I remember it. 704-345-3400.
Ahh, 1962. Rounding the corner of North Capitol Avenue at Westfield Boulevard, at the Canal, on the way to 56th and Illinois. My trusty little transistor radio in my hand, tuned to 1310 WIFE. And the song I cannot shake to this day – “The Twist” with Chubby Checker. Not that I danced! Not that I twisted the night away. But this singer – just 9 years older than me – took the Hank Ballard song and twisted it up a bit. So, as a twelve-year old music lover, with the rock n roll just seeming to begin, this song hit me. Timing is everything, and this song was first released in 1960, but I wasn’t quite there yet. It’s re-release in 1962 hit charts again, and got my attention.
It’s on for me. Music, rock n roll, soul, R&B, the sixties. And I was so blessed to also be exposed to cross-cultural relationships, as my grade school (PS 86 at 49th and Boulevard Place, across the street from famed Hinkle Fieldhouse, Butler University) was well-integrated. The music was crossover, too. Early memories are made of this. Little did I suspect that the seeds for my music career and my on-air radio career had been planted.
